Opening Narrative

Hello and welcome to another exciting radio program today on end times and prophecies and scriptures to live by... which is all about old-time gospel and worship music, praying for needs and preaching the Word of God....

And remember this radio programs Virtual Church for the Spiritual Unchurched is broadcast every Sunday at 7 am and 7 pm pacific time... and if you unfortunately miss it for whatever reason at any time, you can hear the program any time after that for 4 weeks...at my web site TimingRevelation.com

So, we continue today in the new series started a few weeks ago, based on my book “The Horizontal Chronology of the Four Gospels”...

And I did mention to you before that with this series begins the start of the 8th year of these radio programs Virtual Church for the Spiritual Unchurched.

As you already know In this series we look at the four gospels in a new light as they are presented by chronological events taking place within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are presented separately in the Bible ...

It is all the same gospel.... but in chronological order of events taking place, which lets us hear or see side by side who reported and what each said on these events taking place in the gospels.

So, we continue today in the new series started a few weeks ago, based on my book “The Horizontal Chronology of the Four Gospels”...

As you already know In this series we look at the four gospels in a new light as they are presented by chronological events taking place within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are presented separately in the Bible ...

It is all the same gospel.... but in chronological order of main events taking place, which lets us hear or see side by side who reported and what each said on these main events taking place in the gospels.

So as you will recall if you were with us in the last few weeks, there are 9 particular events that we are looking at – if you miss any program at any time, remember, they are replayed on my web site TimingRevelation.com for up to four weeks.

The 9 events we're looking at in this series are:

#1--Pre-human existence of Christ
#2--Pre-natal to Jesus's Incarnation
#3--Birth and Childhood of Christ
#4--Beginning of Jesus' ministry...
#5--Galilean ministry of Jesus,

which is where we are right now, as we continue in the Galilean ministry of Jesus.

Future events yet to come:
#6-- Judean and Perean ministry of Jesus
#7-- Jesus' last week
#8-- Jesus' last 6 hours

Narrative 1

Alright so let's move on with the reading of our Lord's famous Sermon on the Mount that took place very early in His public ministry throughout Galilee... around A.D. 27/28...

So as you will recall last week, we ended on the famous Sermon on the mount recorded by Matthew ...

and based on the chronology of the four gospels by events that we are now studying, we found that Dr. Luke wrote a summary of the Sermon on the Mount, which we find in chapter 6 of the book of Luke...

and we covered a little more than half of it so far... from verses 20 to 38, which you can still hear on my website if you missed it...

So we will pick up from there today, at
verse 39 of Luke's chapter 6:

and I will read this from the New King James Bible:

39 And He spoke a parable to them: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch?

40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.

41 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye?

42 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye.

Now this is interesting right here... we are not told to never remove the speck in our brother's eye... but we are told that first we need to remove the plank in our own eye, then we can remove the speck in our brothers' eye... it is quite in line with earlier teachings about accusing someone of a certain sin, when we ourselves are guilty of the same. So we must be clean of our own sins, then we can point others of their shortcomings.

And verses 43 to 45...
the heading in my bible is

A Tree Is Known by Its Fruit

43 “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.

44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush.

45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Build on the Rock

46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?

47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like:

48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.

49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

and the teaching here is that we are to do that which we hear the words of our Lord and not just hear them and do nothing about it...

And this takes us out of the Sermon on the Mount that was reported mostly in Mathew's gospel but also partly right here in Luke's gospel...

So continuing on our study of the four gospels by chronological events of Jesus' public ministry, let's now move to the next sub-event within the main event of Jesus' Galilean ministry, taking us back to the book of Matthew, now chapter 8...

This is about the cleansing of a leper, somewhere still in Galilee:
(in Capernaum

Matthew 8, verses 1 to 4:

1 When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him.

2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”

3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

4 And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

So there are two interesting things here:

First, I love how the Lord said to him: “I am willing”...

and then He says “be healed”.

It makes our Lord look so sincerely compassionate and real.... “I am willing”... and you know He is always willing to help us... don't be afraid to ask Him to heal you, or help you in some other way... He is willing !

Secondly: some people ask why Jesus told the leper to not tell anyone... Jesus at this point wanted to call attention to the spiritual rather then to the physical miracle... and also, it wasn't time for Him yet to show Himself as the expected Messiah...

but He told the man to show himself to the priest and to offer the required gift... because that was the way of the Mosaic Law concerning the cleansing of the body, and it would be a testimony or evidence to the priest that the man had indeed been cleansed of the leprosy.

And then we see next in the “gospels by chronological events”, that this story was also told by Mark....

We'll look at that right after this:

Narrative # 2

Alright, so we have this story of the cleansing of the leper that we read in the book of Matthew also reported by Mark....

let's read that in Mark 1, verses 40-45:

but before I read that particular story, we get a few more details in the verses preceding this encounter from Mark which is very informative:

verses 35 to 39, which is headed in my King James Bible: Jesus on a preaching tour:
And of course this is all still in Jesus Galilean ministry...

and this was just after the story we already read earlier on about when Jesus healed Simon's mother-in-law, you will recall.

So, verse 35,
Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.

36 And Simon and those who were with Him searched for Him.

37 When they found Him, they said to Him, “Everyone is looking for You.”

38 But He said to them, “Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth.”

v. 39 And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons.

So that was verses 35 to 39 of Mark chapter 6, which leads us to our story here about the cleansing of the leper covered by Matthew earlier on and now the same story covered by Mark...

Now, verses 40 to 45 of Mark chapter 6:

40 Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.”

41 Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”

42 As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.

43 And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once,

44 and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

verse 45, However, he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.

Now this is very interesting, because we have further important details from Mark in here:

he tells us that the man did not keep quiet about his cleansing – even though Jesus told Him not to tell anyone except for the priest -- but he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the matter out everywhere ...

and now right here we learn why Jesus told him not to say anything... Jesus could no longer openly enter the city -- exactly what He (Jesus) did not want to happen because it would interfere with His plan...

so He had to withdraw to places in the desert... but the people came there, from everywhere, to hear Him... wow! Amazing!

Now we find that another gospel writer recorded this same story of the cleansing of a leper.

So let's see what else we can find out from

Luke, in chapter 5, verses 12-16:

So, same story, but now as reported by Luke:

12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.

14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.

16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

And as you probably noticed, I'm back to reading from the old King James Bible...

So, in this reporting by Luke we learn a further detail that the man actually fell on his face before Jesus, and asked him to heal him...

and we are told that there was actually a fame abroad about Him, and that great multitudes came to hear Him in the desert places -- where Jesus healed many infirmities...

Narrative #3

So, now continuing in following of our chronological main events, we now come to the next sub-event within the Galilean Ministry of Jesus, where it is reported about the paralytic who was healed in the town of Capernaum...

We find this first in Matthew chapter 9, verses 1 to 8:

1, And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city.

2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

5 For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?

6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

7 And he arose, and departed to his house.

8 But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.

And then we find this story also told by Mark, in
Mark chapter 2, verses 1 to 12:

And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.

4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

6 But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?

9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?

10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)

11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.

12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

In other words we never saw anything like this before – because again I'm reading from the King James – the Old King James that is.

So here we hear the details of the breaking of the roof to let down the man sick of the palsy that Matthew had not reported... it would appear that Matthew was more interested in the reaction from the scribes than the determination to get the sick man down through breaking up the roof !....

And again this amazing story was also told by Luke in
Luke, chapter 5, verses 17 to 26:

17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.

19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.

20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.

21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?

23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?

24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.

25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.

26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.

So, we see that both Mark and Luke reported the breaking up of the roof to let the sick man down to where Jesus was preaching to the crowd... and that makes sense since Mark and Luke's gospels were written later on after Matthew's...

I guess Matthew didn't think the breaking down of the roof was not as impressive as the response from the scribes was... (just a funny observation!)

But, kidding aside, another interesting observation is that in all three reports, we clearly read that Jesus first told the sick man, “thy sins are forgiven thee”... this immediately evoked the scribes and pharisees to accuse Jesus of blasphemy, murmuring “who can forgive sins but God?”...

... to which Jesus replied, (and I'm paraphrazing this one in my own words!:...

'You think that's something... what's easier, to say your sins are forgiven you or to say arise and walk? let me prove to you that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sin and to heal the sick... and He said to the sick man, “Rise up and walk”! And so the sick man immediately did.

In other words, it's one thing to say “your sins are forgiven”, but it's quite another to say “rise up and walk” and see the man healed right there and then... that was proof of Jesus' authority over sickness as well as sin...

And the crowds were astonished, glorified God and said, “We've never seen anything like this before!”

Alright, so again just for a quick review, in the last couple of weeks we covered the sermon on the mount from the book of Matthew, Mark and Luke... which took us out of the sermon on the mount to the preaching tour of Jesus throughout Galilee... and all the way up to His city of Capernaum, where we saw the healings of the man with leprosy and the paralytic who was led down through the roof of the crowed house...

And we'll have to leave it here for now because we're out of time...

Closing Narrative…

Oh how wonderful to appreciate what Jesus has done in our lives to save us from sin by Grace... and how He continues to keep us by His on-going and unlimited Grace...

...that wonderful Grace that comes into our life the moment that we receive Him as for who He is -- the Saviour of mankind and of every individual like you and me personally...

... and this Jesus the Son of God who came to give His life for you and me is the same Jesus who's life we've been reading about in these series of programs right now, and who's death on the cross we will see as we go through the gospel story to where He gave Himself as the sacrificial Lamb of God that took the sin of the world...

...but right now, the question is:

...do you know this Jesus that we're talking about? If you don't know the Lord...

...Just say this prayer, “Lord come into my heart, come into my life, I turn to you right now and ask for forgiveness, I repent of my sins and receive your work on the cross...  I receive your gospel as it was delivered through your blood shed on the cross in my place, and I thank you, Amen...
