Hello and welcome to another exciting radio program today on end times and prophecies and scriptures to live by... which is all about old-time gospel and worship music, praying for needs and preaching the Word of God....

And remember this radio programs Virtual Church for the Spiritual Unchurched is broadcast every Sunday at 7 am and 7 pm pacific time... and if you unfortunately miss it for whatever reason at any time, you can hear the program any time after that for 4 weeks...at my web site TimingRevelation.com

So, we continue today in the new series started a few weeks ago, based on my book “The Horizontal Chronology of the Four Gospels”...

And I did mention to you before that with this series begins the start of the 8th year of these radio programs Virtual Church for the Spiritual Unchurched.

As you already know In this series we look at the four gospels in a new light as they are presented by chronological events taking place within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are presented separately in the Bible ...

It is all the same gospel.... but in chronological order of events taking place, which lets us hear or see side by side who reported and what each said on these events taking place in the gospels.

So, we continue today in the new series started a few weeks ago, based on my book “The Horizontal Chronology of the Four Gospels”...

As you already know In this series we look at the four gospels in a new light as they are presented by chronological events taking place within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are presented separately in the Bible ...

It is all the same gospel.... but in chronological order of main events taking place, which lets us hear or see side by side who reported and what each said on these main events taking place in the gospels.

So as you will recall if you were with us in the last few weeks, there are 9 particular events that we are looking at – if you miss any program at any time, remember, they are replayed on my web site TimingRevelation.com for up to four weeks.

The 9 events we're looking at in this series are:

#1--Pre-human existence of Christ
#2--Pre-natal to Jesus's Incarnation
#3--Birth and Childhood of Christ
#4--Beginning of Jesus' ministry...

Future events yet to come:
#6-- Judean and Perean ministry of Jesus

Narrative 1

Alright, so picking up today from where we left off last week, at verse 23 of John, chapter 5, verses 1-47, about the lame man who was healed on the Sabbath by the pool of Bethesda and where the Jewish rulers persecuted Jesus because He healed on a Sabbath day...

and when Jesus answered them speaking of Himself as being one with the Father... remember, when He said to them: “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working”.

So let's read the last verse we closed with last week:

verse 24 of John chapter 5:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

And now, we pick up in this chapter with verse 25 where Jesus continues to speak to the crowd about who He is:

“Verily, verily, Jesus continues, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Wow.. Jesus is really letting them know – us, everyone -- what to expect in the future, what is coming in the future...

by our own choice we send ourselves to either the resurrection of life or to the resurrection of damnation...

30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true...

Now why would Jesus say this. Well it refers to the Jewish law requiring two witnesses. On this basis of one witness (Jesus Himself), He is stating that the Jews would not believe Him. So He proceeds to mention other witnesses to validate His claim.

Verse 32, “There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.

33 Ye sent unto John (meaning John the Baptist), and he bare witness unto the truth.

34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.

35 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

In other words the works themselves that I do are a witness of me....

37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.

Wow that's quite a speech! He's telling them that He was sent by God but you haven't even heard of God because He does not abide in you... He doesn't live in you... in other words they were not “born-again”... anyway wow that was quite a speech.

So He continues, Verse 39,

“You search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me (in other words these very scriptures testify of me) He is saying...

40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Verse 41, “I receive not honour from men.

42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

Woah... that's really thinking afar off of something yet to come !

44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me.

And verse 47,

“But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

Wow! Can you imagine being there that day and hearing Him say all this to the crowd publicly?

So after Jesus long speech that we just read about, the lame man being healed, and the strong response from the legalistic rulers, we have some more stories of miracles that Jesus got in trouble for, because they were done on the Sabbath day...

We'll look at that right after this:

Music interlude...

Narrative # 2

So next we find Jesus getting in trouble again as His disciples plucked some corn to eat on a Sabbath...

and that incident was recorded by Matthew, Mark and Luke...

so, let's read what Matthew tells us about this in
Matthew, chapter 12, verses 1 to 8:

1, “At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat.

2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.

3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;

Wow, Jesus knew His Word !

4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.

Wow, speaking of Himself again.... He never kept that secret... He spoke about Himself over and over... anyway...

7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

So Jesus, clearly declares Himself again as who He is and proceeds to explain to them how the Torah made provision for the priests who worked on the sabbath to prepare the bread and the sacrifices that were offered on behalf of the people... then He says:

8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

So Jesus, shows Himself as above the priests and above the law...

Now let's read how Mark reports this story in his gospel...

Mark, chapter 2, verses 23-28,

23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.

24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?

25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?

26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?

27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
(so here's where that famous line comes from – from Mark.

28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Now let's see how Dr. Luke wrote this in his records:

Luke 6, verses 1-5,

And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, (so right here we find that this was the second sabbath and not the same sabbath day as the other controversies we just read in the other two reportings of Matthew and Mark)... Luke is always strong on important/interesting details.

And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands... (now here's another detail, rubbing them in their hands... another interesting details that the others did not mention – so not only did they plucked the ears of corn on a Sabbath, but they even also rubbed them in their hands for to eat... in other words they really gave the vexed rulers of the law something to complain about.

2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?

3 And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him;

4 How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?

5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

So there again we have a few more details and then again Jesus repeats that He is Lord of the Sabbath.

Narrative #3

Now as if this wasn't enough of legalistic controversies on the Sabbath against Jesus from the offended rulers of the law, there were more healings on the Sabbath stories recorded....

Here's one more right here that took place within the same timeline of Jesus' Galilean ministry, recorded by Matthew, Mark and Luke...

Let's look at Matthew first,
Matthew chapter 12, verses 9 to 14,

9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:

10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

So we can see that the rulers were just looking to catch the Lord doing miracles on the sabbath day...

11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?

12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore (Therefore) it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

Typical... they were just seething with rage and indignation against this “Man” who rightfully and truthfully claimed to be who He was -- the Son of God...

Now let's look at Mark' report about this same story:
Mark chapter 3, verses 1-6

1 “And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand.

2 And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.

3 And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.

4 And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

Wow, so pictorial of Jesus' realistic feelings... we can just feel what Jesus felt at that moment.

6 And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

So here we just have a couple of details that they got together with the Herodians and also that Jesus questioned them about the sabbath also...

And, let's see Luke's take on this story:
Luke chapter 6, verses 6-11

6 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.

So here, again, Luke tells us this took place on another sabbath from the other stories reported just above.

Verse 7, “And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.

8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.

9 Then said Jesus unto them, (them who were watching), I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?

I just love the way Jesus handles all of these tense-moment situations -- so cleverly...

verse 10, “And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he (the man) did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

11 And they were filled with madness (madness! Can you imagine—they were filled with madnesss because of the healings that Jesus was doing); and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.

So we find that all three are very close in their reporting.....

Yes, Jesus only wanted to do good and heal people, body, soul and spirit... and yet the religious and political do-gooders around Him hated Him and wanted Him destroyed ... isn't that the way it is, God sends a Saviour and His own people do everything they can to stop Him... amazing!...

... and there is one more story reported about multitudes being healed around the see of Galilee in this time-frame of Jesus' ministry, which we find right after the healing of the man with the withered hand that we read about, when the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

but we'll have to leave it for the next program because right here right now
we've run out of time again...

so we will pick up from here next week...

In the meantime, as the song says, there's a miracle waiting for you... “Stretch forth your hand” says the Master... are you ready for Him? He is ready for you... He's been ready and waiting for you for a long time...

Closing Narrative…

Oh how wonderful to appreciate what Jesus has done in our lives to save us from sin by Grace... and how He continues to keep us by His on-going and unlimited Grace...

...that wonderful Grace that comes into our life the moment that we receive Him as for who He is -- the Saviour of mankind and of every individual like you and me personally...

... and this Jesus the Son of God who came to give His life for you and me is the same Jesus who's life we've been reading about in these series of programs right now, and who's death on the cross we will see as we go through the gospel story to where He gave Himself as the sacrificial Lamb of God that took the sin of the world...

...but right now, the question is:

...do you know this Jesus that we're talking about? If you don't know the Lord...

...Just say this prayer, “Lord come into my heart, come into my life, I turn to you right now and ask for forgiveness, I repent of my sins and receive your work on the cross...  I receive your gospel as it was delivered through your blood shed on the cross in my place, and I thank you, Amen...
