So, we continue today in the new series started a few weeks ago, based on my book “The Horizontal Chronology of the Four Gospels”...

And I did mention to you before that with this series begins the start of the 8th year of these radio programs Virtual Church for the Spiritual Unchurched.

As you already know In this series we look at the four gospels in a new light as they are presented by chronological events taking place within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are presented separately in the Bible ...

It is all the same gospel.... but in chronological order of events taking place, which lets us hear or see side by side who reported and what each said on these events taking place in the gospels.

So, we continue today in the new series started a few weeks ago, based on my book “The Horizontal Chronology of the Four Gospels”...

As you already know In this series we look at the four gospels in a new light as they are presented by chronological events taking place within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are presented separately in the Bible ...

It is all the same gospel.... but in chronological order of main events taking place, which lets us hear or see side by side who reported and what each said on these main events taking place in the gospels.

So as you will recall if you were with us in the last few weeks, there are 9 particular events that we are looking at – if you miss any program at any time, remember, they are replayed on my web site TimingRevelation.com for up to four weeks.

The 9 events we're looking at in this series are:

#1--Pre-human existence of Christ
#2--Pre-natal to Jesus's Incarnation
#3--Birth and Childhood of Christ
#4--Beginning of Jesus' ministry...
#5--Galilean ministry of Jesus,

which is where we are right now, as we continue in the Galilean ministry of Jesus.

Future events yet to come:
#6-- Judean and Perean ministry of Jesus
#7-- Jesus' last week
#8-- Jesus' last 6 hours
#9-- From the Resurrection to the Ascension

So we will pick up from here right after this opening music, prayer and worship...

Narrative 1

Alright, so we pick up from where we left off last week... as we begin part 12 of Jesus's ministry throughout Galilee... as you can see the Galilean ministry our Lord's longest of all of them, in Judea and Perea...which we will be getting into later on...

Remember last week, we ended with Luke 11, verses 24 to 36, where Jesus was accused of operating under the spirit of Beelzebub.

That chapter ended with Jesus telling the crowd and the Pharasees:

35_“Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

36_ If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light."

Our next verses today are verses 37 to 54 of the same chapter of Luke 11, where we will now read about the Lord denouncing the Pharisees. This takes place somewhere near Capernaum.

So let's read, Luke chapter 11, verses 37 to 54:

37_"And as he spoke, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.

38_And when the Pharisee saw (it), he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.

39_And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

40_Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without (outside) make that which is within (inside) also?

41_But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you."

In other words Jesus was saying that they, the Pharisees, were very careful to maintain outward cleanliness, but were unconcerned about their inside which is to do the spiritual things like giving to God and the others... and then proceeds to denounce them of a list of things they ought to be doing from the inside...

Verse 42_ "But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

43_Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

44_Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

45_Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also."

In other words this lawyer says to Jesus, Rabbi by saying these things you reproach us also...

46_"And he (Jesus) said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade (load) men with burdens grievous to be borne, (or burdens they can hardly bear) and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers."

... and I will read the rest from the Complete Jewish Bible – verse 47 to 54...

47_“Woe to you! You build tombs in memory of the prophets, but your fathers murdered them!

48_Thus you testify that you completely approve of what your fathers did — they did the killing, you do the building!

49_Therefore the Wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and emissaries; they will kill some and persecute others’;

50_So that on this generation will fall the responsibility for all the prophets’ blood that has been shed since the world was established,

51_from the blood of Hevel (Abel), to the blood of Z’kharyah (Zechariah), who was killed between the altar and the Holy Place. Yes, I tell you, the responsibility for it will fall on this generation!

52_Woe to you Torah experts! For you have taken away the key of knowledge! Not only did you yourselves not go in, you also have stopped those who were trying to enter!”

53_As Yeshua left that place, the Torah-teachers (Scribes) and the P’rushim (Pharasees) began to oppose him bitterly and to provoke him to express his views on all sorts of subjects,

54_laying traps to catch him in something he might say."

Now that is so amazing... how Jesus let them have a real piece of His mind about the pride and arrogance of the Priests and Lawyers of the time....

Let me read what is written about this in the Liberty Commentary Bible:

Quote: “Notice how boldly Jesus spoke in these verses. Six times he uttered woes, and once called them fools (meaning spiritually imperceptive), and once hypocrites.

“Jesus was just over thirty, and this did not sit well with the older generation. Jesus rightly accused them of deceipt (vs 41-42, pride (vs 43), inconsistency (vs 44-46), of condoning murder and conspiracy (vs 47-51), and hindering people from being saved (vs 53).

“Luke notes how heated the discussion got in verse 53 where it says the Pharisees were rudely provoking Christ to speak about many such subjects in hopes (vs 54) of being able to accuse Jesus of something in order to put Him to death. Christ was their thorn in the flesh.” Unquote.

And that ends that hot chapter where Jesus denounced the religious rulers of that time.

Narrative # 2

Next we will go to another event within Jesus' Galilean preaching tour, somewhere around Capernaum, or Nazareth where Jesus' family lived... and where his mother and brethren seek audience... which is reported by Matthew, Mark and Luke...

Matthew, chapter 12, verses 46 to 50:

46_"While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without (outside), desiring to speak with him.

47_Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.

48_But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

49_And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

50_For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother."

This is a very interesting occasion... by this deep question Jesus sums up the physical relationships on earth to the more critical relationship of the spiritual dimension.

Again I will read the excellent comment in the Liberty Commentary Bible, in part:

“A believer is even closer to Christ than to a physical relative. This saying was not intended to be one of disrespect to Mary or to his brothers, for they too would come to share that spiritual relationship. It should also be noted that there is no suggestion here at all, however, that Jesus' mother had any special access to His presence or any particular influence over Him. By using this startling question, Jesus prepares the crowd to receive the precious truth that whosoever shall do the will of my Father was, in fact His mother, His brother, His sister.

“Hendriksen (p. 542) suggests that it was to His inner circle of disciples that He gave this loving and honored designation. The beauty of this passage can be seen in the fact that while they had left all and followed Him, they were still often 'of little faith' (8:26). Yet He was not ashamed to call them brothers (see Heb. 2:11). Those who trust Him as their personal Saviour become adopted members of the family of God (see Romans 8:17, 29).“

Wow, that's pretty good explanation of the physical vs the spiritual relationship between people and family especially in the case of case of Jesus.

Now let's see what Mark says about that same incident when Jesus' mother and brethren requested audience with Him...

Mark chapter 3, verses 31 – 35:

Here, somehow this part of the event picks up from the earlier reporting of Mark where he covered the previous scenario where Jesus explained about the unpardonable sin... so obviously some of the reporting on all the various preaching tour activities were written in different areas of the tour... however this is where Mark brought up this particular incident, here in chapter 3, verses 31 to 35:

So Mark continues at verse 31 of his discourse:

31_“There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.

32_And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. -- or for you...

33_And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?

34_And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! -- or, look, pointing to them, look my mother and my brethren.

35_For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother."

And so we see here that Mark's report is pretty much the very same as Matthew's. Notice also that Joseph is not mentioned at all nor referred to in any way... I guess as some would put it, he was history already by then!

Narrative #3

And now we continue with Luke's reporting on this same incident when Jesus' mother and brethren requested audience of Jesus...

Luke chapter 8, verses 19 to 21:

and here too, Luke picks up from a previous reporting that we already saw before and seems to tag this to it... but it is still within that same preaching tour that we've been going through... it is quite probable that as we have discussed before, often the 4 gospel writers have used one another's reporting when writing their own, some in the 50's, 60's and/or 70's A.D., and even in the 90's as in the case of John who wrote his gospel much later on after his release from Patmos.

So, let's read this part of Luke's subject matter from an earlier report,

verse 19_“Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.

20_And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.

21_And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it."

And that's all that Luke wrote about this. So we see that all three writers tell the same story taking place, with Matthew and Mark giving a few more details about it.

And now, we find ourselves going back to the famous parables told by Jesus about the Sower, the Seed, the Tares, Mustard seed, Leaven, Treasure, Pearl, net, Householder...

which are reported by Matthew, Mark and Luke...

Let's start with the first one that comes up here, with Matthew and which seems to be the longest passage on this subject reported... and see how far we can get on this program:

Matthew chapter 13 and verses 1 to 52...

and I'll break that down to lesser verse segments...

So, let's begin with verses 1 to 9:

1_"The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.

(and the same day refers to the day when Jesus spoke about who his mother and brothers and sisters are in the spiritual Kingdom of God...)

So, “The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.

2_And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

3_And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;

4_And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

5_Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:

6_And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

7_And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:

8_But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

9_Who hath ears to hear, let him hear."

And this is as far as we can get in this program for today, because we have again ran out of time... we will pick up from here next week:

Closing Narrative…

Oh how wonderful to appreciate what Jesus has done in our lives to save us from sin by Grace... and how He continues to keep us by His on-going and unlimited Grace...

...that wonderful Grace that comes into our life the moment that we receive Him as for who He is -- the Saviour of mankind and of every individual like you and me personally...

... and this Jesus the Son of God who came to give His life for you and me is the same Jesus who's life we've been reading about in these series of programs right now, and who's death on the cross we will see as we go through the gospel story to where He gave Himself as the sacrificial Lamb of God that took the sin of the world...

...but right now, the question is:

...do you know this Jesus that we're talking about? If you don't know the Lord...

...Just say this prayer, “Lord come into my heart, come into my life, I turn to you right now and ask for forgiveness, I repent of my sins and receive your work on the cross...  I receive your gospel as it was delivered through your blood shed on the cross in my place, and I thank you, Amen...
